Geographies & Ethnographies

There's this upcoming seminar at Objectifs... Not sure if you guys will be interested to attend. It's on 23rd Feb, Mon, 7-10pm. Admission free, but registration is required.

Geographies and other Ethnographies: Between Context and Identity
"Trained in Portugal, Spain, the United States (New York and Los Angeles), and currently based in Germany, José Carlos Teixeira will discuss his artistic practice and present some recent projects that have been exhibited in Europe and the US. This talk is ideal for aspiring photo and video-artists looking to learn more about artistic and professional paths in this field.

José’s work, mostly focusing on video, and video installation, deals with notions of language, identity, boundary, and displacement, from a psychological to a more sociological or political point of view. Collaboration and participation, in form of actions or interviews recorded and staged for the camera, are key elements in his process and methodology. The frontiers between fiction and reality, video art and documentary, are purposely left open and undefined, thus resisting conventional categorizations. Such approach follows quite often an ethnographic mode that made José recently conceive his activity as a sort of “video & visual anthropology”.
